TITLE: Product Category Manager 

REPORTING TO: Head of Technical, Quality and Product 

LOCATION: Bedford 

 

SCOPE AND IMPACT OF POSITION ON THE ORGANISATION: 

The Product Category Manager role will be responsible for managing the current product portfolio and delivering products that fill the gaps in our current range using market trends, end-user, installer & specifier insight, competitor benchmarking and commercial analysis to identify these gaps in line with the current category vision. 

They will influence the Product Strategy and work to align the current ranges to meet market demands. They will oversee the total product portfolio and work closely with all departments to ensure winning new products are delivered. It also includes ensuring ranges are launched successfully with all the relevant documentation and training carried out to meet sales and margin demands. 

They will advise and work with the HoTQP to ensure technical compliance and will ensure product issues are resolved. 

 

 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Review trading performance, identify areas of concern/opportunity and take appropriate action to maximise potential in line with the category role and product strategy. 

2. Deliver range reviews and continually assess the UK product portfolio and identify requirements for each category that will deliver the business and brand objectives. Collect and analyse product information, competitor actions and general market/customer feedback in order to identify new product opportunities (short term and long term) that will generate value for the category and the business. 

3. Have a good knowledge of the product portfolio, understanding relevance of products and their marketing and technical features for customers and their environments, work with the HoTQP to ensure compliance to legislation and evaluation against competitor equivalents. 

4. Work with the Lecico Egypt team and ensure the needs of the UK market are maintained, influencing Egypt to ensure that the central product roadmap reflects the needs of Lecico Plc. Ensure that business cases for new products are compelling and are aligned with the company strategy. 

5. Actively support the overall process and planning for delivering effective new product introduction, (both locally and centrally driven) and work with the HoTQP to analyse the portfolio to identify non-value adding SKU complexity. Drive SKU rationalization and effective product phase-out plans and influence effective lifecycle management. 

6. Work with sales and marketing to establish sales forecasts, product pricing, communication and profitability/margin development targets. Work with suppliers to ensure product training, marketing data and ensure features & benefits are obtained for effective communication and introduction of the new ranges. 

7. Monitor & evaluate UK sales performance, market share and margin evolution and performance for the product category, recommending appropriate action to ensure delivery of the plan. Communicate this data to the HoTQP ensuring this is updated to present to the SMT. 

8. Advise and assist in actively supporting the HoTQP in building the capability of the UK sales and marketing teams to effectively sell and communicate our products through product training – with an emphasis on supporting the sales team to effectively ‘value sell’ and build awareness with customers. 

9. Support the UK Marketing team in the development of product communication to ensure products and technologies are effectively communicated. 

10. Assist the HoTQP in writing local product specifications and requirements, working with relevant internal teams ensuring product meets UK needs and legal requirements. 

11. Support the HoTQP on strategies & initiatives as a key member of the product team. 

12. Work with sundry suppliers to implement annual trading agreements and negotiate improvements in rebates and marketing support where appropriate. 

 

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: 

General Experience / Knowledge base: 

• Strong Commercial Experience gained in a B2B environment 

• Project Management = highly organized 

• Excellent communication skills – ability to interact and influence, understanding of technical information and ability to disseminate at general level 

• IT = MS Office, Excel, Power Point 

• Experience of influencing teams 

• BA degree in purchasing, marketing or equivalent business degree 

 

Specific Skills/Experience: 

  • Product Category management experience (min 3 years) 
  • Experience of Sustainable Policies and an interest in water saving would be advantageous 
  • Commercial awareness - margin development, business case development, customer requirements & strategy 
  • Analytical – markets, competitor benchmarking, performance tracking 
  • Activation – launches, phase-out/rationalisation plans 
  • Marketing & launch planning 
  • Pricing 
  • Industry knowledge, bathroom or relatable B2B Industry Experience 
  • Ability to develop and assist to manage strategies & initiatives 
  • Understanding of channels to market and the UK bathroom industry

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT:

  • Travel within UK to meetings, customers and suppliers as required, inc overnight. Some travel to Egypt will be required.
